Edward K. Roberts Scholarship

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County has been awarded to The Foundation for Florida Gateway College with funds to benefit students who are attending FGC fall semester of 2025-2026. The funds come from the Edward K. Roberts Community College Fund, which was established by Roberts as a legacy to support Florida’s community colleges and other charitable organizations. Managed by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, the fund continues Roberts’ vision of making higher education a priority, particularly for those motivated to seek better lives for themselves. Scholarship Eligibility

  • FAFSA must be on file
  • GPA overall of 2.5 or higher
  • Any post-secondary credential, including Bachelors, Associate’s, and Certificate programs, including non-Pell eligible programs
  • Scholarship preference is for:
    • Part-time student (6 credits-hours or less) who may not qualify for other type of financial aid
    • Students who are parents (whether single or married) 

How to Apply

Step 1: Complete the FAFSA*

You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.studentaid.gov
(FGC school code is 001501) FAFSA 2025-2026 for the fall term.
* Except for the following programs: Facial Specialist, Nail Specialist, Firefighter Minimum Standards, Fire Science Apparatus Operator, Phlebotomy, Corrections to Law Enforcement, and Law Enforcement to Corrections.

Step 2: Complete the Scholarship Application

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the Edward K. Roberts application and provide an essay of 200 words as to why you should be a recipient of an FGC scholarship.

Email the scholarship application and essay to financial_aid@fgc.edu. Photos of applications will not be accepted. You may also submit the applicaiton and essay to the Financial Aid Office in Building 14.

Award Amount

Students may receive up to $3,000 for the 2025-2026 academic year.
