LAKE CITY, Fla. – The Florida Gateway College community is deeply saddened by the passing of Ms. Kathryn McInnis, beloved FGC Board of Trustees Member and ardent supporter of the college and its students.

Ms. McInnis joined the FGC Board in March of 1999, representing Dixie County for more than 25 years and playing an instrumental role in the school’s direction, growth, and success. During her tenure, she dedicated her time, energy, and passion to the mission of FGC, bringing educational opportunities and resources to the students of Dixie County and beyond.

“Kathryn has left an indelible mark on FGC,” said FGC President Dr. Lawrence Barrett. “Her warm smile, encouraging words, and dedication to our institution and students will be greatly missed. I know that I speak on behalf of our entire community and our Board of Trustees when I say that her memory will be cherished always.”

McInnis’s work was crucial to the success of the FGC Dixie Center and of the Adult Education and GED Test Prep Program. With her support, the Dixie Center secured funding and partnerships with community and county organizations to renovate the center, providing students with the facilities, tools, and resources they need to succeed. All the while, Kathryn remained a constant presence and source of material and moral support, never missing an opportunity to let students know how much their success meant to her. Her legacy of service will live on in the students, staff, and programs that she so passionately championed.

Beyond her role on the FGC Board, Ms. McInnis was an active member of the Dixie County community for many decades, lending her time and talents to a wide variety of causes and organizations. She spent 37 years working for the Dixie County School System before retiring. As a founding member of the Dixie County Education Foundation, she was instrumental to its formation and served as president for multiple years, providing support and scholarships to generations of Dixie County students.

The administration, faculty, and staff of Florida Gateway College offer our deepest condolences to Kathryn’s family, friends, and loved ones, and to all those whose lives she touched.
