LAKE CITY, Fla. – Florida Gateway College has received a generous donation of firefighting and training equipment from Baker County Fire Rescue valued at more than $10,000. The donated equipment will be used in vehicle extraction training and will be vital in developing the skills and knowledge needed to save lives.
“The quote we received for similar new equipment was over $30,000,” said FGC Fire Science Program Assistant Professor Tracey Higdon. “This equipment will be a boost to our program and allow us to use our funding for other needs.
“I would like to recognize Baker County Fire, Chief Trevor Nelson, and Chief Donald Blanton for their contribution and dedication to the partnership we have with them.”
The donated equipment includes power units, telescopic rams, cutters, and spreaders — tools commonly known as the “Jaws of Life.”
